A school bus crash in Washington County, Tennessee left nearly 30 students with various injuries, according to a recent report from CNN. In all, 28 people were taken to local hospitals for treatment after the accident: 27 injured children and one adult.
The school bus had 67 passengers on board when it overturned. Investigators believe the accident, which involved only the bus, occurred when the bus’s right wheels went off the road for a moment. The driver overcorrected, causing the bus to swerve and then to fall onto its side.
Twelve of the injured passengers needed to stay in the hospital at least overnight for treatment; the rest were treated and released to go home. The most serious injuries included one passenger with a major scalp wound and another with a severe neck injury. Other injuries involved spinal damage and broken bones. Two of the injured passengers required surgery, but doctors expect that all of them will recover from their injuries.
The students on the bus attended David Crockett High School in Jonesborough, Tennessee. The school had counselors on hand in the days after the accident for students who needed someone to talk to, whether they had been involved in the accident, had friends who were hurt, or merely needed to discuss their feelings after the crash.
