Chattanooga Actos Side EffectsDrug experts have warned that the long-term use of Actos, a drug intended to treat diabetes, may be linked to bladder cancer for more than a year. As such, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the drug’s manufacturer, could face as many as 10,000 lawsuits from Actos patients afflicted with bladder cancer. All Actos lawsuits have been consolidated to a multi-district federal court in Louisiana, and a recent order by the judge overseeing litigation may give patients who suffered adverse side effects after taking the diabetes drug more time to file a claim, according to the Actos Bladder Cancer Center.
A number of studies have shown that Actos is linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer. A report from RedOrbit.com cites the following studies:
Health Canada issued a warning after a study conducted showed a greater than 40 percent increased risk of bladder cancer from Actos use.
McGill University in Montreal conducted a study that showed the increased risk of bladder cancer after long-term use of the drug may be as high as 83 percent.
France and Germany banned the drug after a study revealed that long-term Actos use could increase the risk of bladder cancer by as much as 40 percent. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) followed up by issuing its own alert.
Legal help is available for individuals in Chattanooga, and throughout Tennessee, who may just be discovering that they have been affected, and patients are encouraged to speak with a qualified Actos injury attorney about their legal rights and options. To allow for evidence to be gathered and citing the large number of cases likely to be filed, the judge in charge of the litigation issued a scheduling order on July 13 that set the first Actos trial for November 2014.
With the large number of Actos injury cases that may be filed, it is imperative that affected patients get assistance from a knowledgeable lawyer who will stay abreast of the case and ensure their legal rights are protected. The Actos injury attorneys in Tennessee at Massey & Associates, P.C. are committed to protecting the rights of patients whose health and well-being have been harmed due to a defective drug.
